A potluck where everyone is expected to discuss what's most offensive to their culture sounds very Michael Scott.

I love that the warning about audio issues sounds like what I assume ASMR sounds like. "Let these dulcimer tones soothe the pain incoming from technical difficulties." :D

On a side note as someone who has to take these trainings from time to time, I think the upside is that it has a bit of a team building effect. Nothing brings us all closer together than laughing at and commenting on the remarkably poorly executed trainings we are assigned. No matter your identity there is a stock photo actor out there for you and you can harmlessly ridicule them amongst your peers. :D

EDIT: Are we calling convicted criminals "formerly incarcerated" like calling homeless "houseless" just wanna keep my lexicon up to date.

On Wellcome DEI Efforts: Employees should sue company for DEI harassment. The practice of identifying structural and behavioral harm belongs to my field- Behavioral Science Research. Uninformed DEI enthusiasts trespass into my territory, get the story wrong every time and reduce everyone to a monolithic photocopy of whatever identity group they choose to put you in. DEI also violates fundamental HR principles in any organization. And they are antisemitic(twice at my former job at public health department in SF). I am hoping to abolish DEI within 5 years.

The sociology conference story was unintentionally hilarious. Love the Fresh Prince musical interlude.

Unless and until the ASA becomes fully transparent on the review process for the award it gave to Alice Goffman, the organization's credibility is deeply compromised.

Instead of a potluck it should be called a potlatch, and everyone should be required to speak in Chinook jargon.

Re: Mentioning race and hiring.

To be fair, there is a difference between saying "Race is THE reason so-and-so was hired" and "Race was ONE OF MANY reasons so-and-so was hired."
