My second favorite thing about torsogate was learning that the guy’s wife is a bodybuilder/fitness influencer. So, really, he’s a guy getting into one of his wife’s interests, and that just makes me happy for them.
People who acted like Pence’s rule about being alone with a woman was weird clearly didn’t know much about religion in general. That’s normal for conservative Christians and is a major feature of Jewish law, too. It’s just not odd. And yeah the reasoning other than that it’s divine law is often to do with respecting women’s comfort, at least in the Jewish context. Proto-MeToo-ism was the norm for a lot of religions, so, for most people in existence ever.
MeToo was very beneficial for dating app companies, given that it became taboo to ask women out in any normal irl context. I don’t know if there’s any practical connexion there. However, I think the scale of MeToo’s anxiety is exaggerated and it didn’t severely affect a lot of settings where normal people outnumber online/media types.
As a (former-or-current depending on your politics) gay male, the after photo is unattractive to me and the former is attractive. So, #notallgays or whatevs!
For some reason I have an inordinate number of friends on Facebook who are either bodybuilders or their spouses are, so when they post photos from their competitions they look like picture number 2. The guy just looks emaciated, probably has less muscle mass too.
And what it takes to get to that just sounds miserable. Lots of stories on Facebook before competitions like, "looking forward to something more than pre-measured skinless chicken breast and steamed greens while measuring salt seasoning in two months after this!"
Rob Henderson has written on Torsogate. Rob is a social psychologist and often addresses normal differences in male and female perceptions and attitudes, backing his observations with academic references and stuff. Worth a look if you are not burned out on the subject.
You conjured the male apprehensions of women retreating into their cave redoubts and donning fuzzy slippers. You left out the cats. Men are humiliated by womens' preference for cats. No less an eminence than our Vice President has validated this concern.
The discussion reminded me of the man versus bear in the wild controversy. Women also prefer bears to men--at least in the wild.
Lastly, is Mike Pence really "sex negative" or is he simply courtly in a charming and archaic fashion? I wager he does enjoy sex with his wife, but as a gentleman, he would not broach that subject in public.
[Time 58:00]; The Me-Too era seemingly peaked during a time that I was assertively pursuing the scheduling of an in-person meeting with a female director at work before Covid. The meeting was in my opinion an emergency as it was about addressing extreme information fraud. I was not happy about having gone beyond my comfort zone to essentially demand a meeting while Me-Too was in the background. The director finally agreed to meet because I was persistent.
I like the idea of the Met Gala. That NYC event likely benefits the social and economic climate of SF in ways that are indirect. I didn’t know that the fashion section of the Metropolitan Museum of Art had to pay for itself. I do want to invite both Kat and Phoebe to the next biennial “Black and White Ball” at the SF Opera. I won’t be attending and you have to pay for your own tickets. But, you would enjoy it.
Anti-polarization blocks out any opportunity for a counterculture to emerge because polarization drives clicks and counterculture gets co-opted by advertising agencies as style choices before it can impactfully push back against the dominant left/right mishegas.
Too antisemitic even for the daily wire....yall just sound uninformed when you say this. Ben Shapiro is possibly the most publicly Jewish political commentator of the day and is very pro Israel. People who associate the daily wire with antisemitism don't know what they're talking about.

Wasted my night making this an actual product for rabid Chelsea Clinton fangirls.
Incredible!

That last image: “They found love in a hopeless place…”
Brief saintly ramblings.
